Child and Youth ProgramsUmbrella Girl
Mali, a little girl who lives in Thailand, is an umbrella maker. She is only 8 years old and already she is a responsible part of the family team – she put the tassels on the umbrellas her family makes.
Then one day, she fumbled with the tassels – she couldn’t seem to get her fingers to work. At first her mother thought her daughter was just tired, so she asked her to rest. But this little girl’s hands grew stiff and resistant – soon she could hardly hold a pencil. Finally, her parents took her to the doctor.
This little 8-year-old girl had leprosy.
Umbrella Girl is a curriculum for children that teaches them Mali’s story of being diagnosed and then healed of leprosy, and how she met Jesus along the way. The kit includes a DVD. If you prefer, you can go to the Videos page of this website to watch the video now.
It is appropriate for both secular and church settings, for children ages 5 to 12.
